Skin diet

Taking care of your skin from the inside is just as important as taking care of it from the outside.  You can buy the most talked about and expensive skincare treatments, see the top dermatologist, or go to the most luxurious spas but if you feed your body unhealthy food your skin will not look its best; so put it on a skin diet!

Load up on colorful fruits and vegetables daily, the darker the better.  The more colorful they are the higher concentrations of nutrients and antioxidants they can boast.  Not only will these healthy foods nourish your cells but they will also fight off free radical attacks due to their high antioxidant activity.  When it comes to dark yummy berries you are safe in choosing either fresh or frozen; both are great choices.  Make sure you don’t eat them with milk because sadly this beverage blocks the absorption of antioxidants.

Protein in another important component for a healthy complexion, but make sure to choose lean selections such as egg whites, nuts, chia seeds, and for those meat eaters; turkey and fish are good choices.  As a vegetarian I love a delicious egg white salad sandwich or a snacking on almonds throughout the day.    I find protein a more challenging category so I try to be creative in how I add this to my diet.

Add an omega 3 supplement to your daily routine.  This simple addition helps to maintain the health of your cell membranes and provides immense benefits to your overall wellness.

Avoid too much sugar!  I know this is a tough one (at least it is for my many sweet teeth.)  Sugar has a tendency to latch onto collagen fibers making them brittle and susceptible to forming wrinkles.  Sugar can also make acne worse.  You don’t have to give it up completely just make an effort to get it in moderation and remember that sugar can sneak its way into things such as beverages.

One more little tidbit to take into consideration is that dairy products can also make acne worse for some individuals.  If you are struggling with this condition try eliminating dairy for a period of time and see if you notice any changes within your skin.

Yes, using effective skin care products is still important and will help make your skin look and feel better but what you feed your skin from the inside is just as important.    Look at your skin in a holistic way taking care of it both inside and out and you will look and feel more beautiful.  A skin diet may sound scary but with a few simple changes you can give your complexion what it needs to look gorgeous!
