My mom is one of the most amazing women I have ever known and I am so deeply saddened to say that she passed away last week and we will be burying her today. She was such a beautiful woman, mom, and Grand’Mere that I just wanted to take a moment and share how truly special she really was.
My mom was someone who I always aspired to be like. She was kind, generous, caring, compassionate, and brilliant at everything she did. Growing up I watched her sew, paint, re-upholster furniture, make curtains, knit, and crochet.
When I was a child we had sheep that produced beautiful wool, and she would take that wool, clean it, dye the white wool with natural plant dyes, card it, roll it, and sit at her spinning wheel and spin it into spectacular yarn. It was always so exciting to see the finished product and think how it came from our sweet little sheep and the hands of my loving mom.
She was a Master Gardner and a stained glass artisan. When she put her mind to doing something, she not only did it, but she did it unbelievably well!
My mom was one of the most vibrant, creative, and loving people I have ever known. But being impressively creative wasn’t her only strong suit.
She held an elected position of county assessor for 16 years in a county that was the fastest growing county in the United States at the time. Talk about a stressful career choice. She always took everything in stride and was highly respected and revered by a vast number of people.
I look back on her life and am so proud that she was my mom. I can’t even begin to put into words how much I am going to miss her. She was always so supportive, encouraging, caring, and quick with a warm smile.
I will miss picking up the phone whenever I have a question for her or want to tell her something my kids have done. I will miss her advice and loving words of encouragement.
She touched so many lives with her kind ways. She was and will always be my hero!
I love you Mom!
