The holidays can be a very stressful time of year with shopping, out-of-town guests, parties, kid’s activities, decorating, baking, and the list seems to go on and on. Did you know that stress can wreak havoc on your skin? Read on to discover why it’s important to chill out this holiday season so you can enjoy a beautiful complexion.
Wrinkles
When you experience chronic on going stress your body continually produces a hormone called cortisol. This particular hormone breaks down collagen (a vital protein in your skin responsible for firm healthy skin) creating lines and wrinkles.
Acne
Stress hormones also cause other issues within the skin such as adult acne. As you become stressed out the likelihood of picking, poking, and squeezing increases, leaving your skin inflamed, red, and painful.
Skin Irritation
Unfortunately, stress can also exacerbate existing skin conditions such as dermatitis, rosacea, hives, and psoriasis.
Puffy Eyes
As you push through your day feeling stressed your sleep becomes disrupted. Lack of sleep then creates its own slew of problems ranging from leaky capillaries, fluid retention, poor circulation, and inflammation. These issues then lead the way to puffy eyes and under eye circles.
During this hectic time of year make sure you take time for yourself no matter how small it may seem. Give yourself a chance to breathe. Set aside some time every day to do something relaxing such as reading, listening to music, walking, watching your favorite movie, sipping a hot cup of tea, or my favorite; resting in front of my DPL Therapy System. Whatever it may be that helps you wind down, it’s important to your health and your skin that you don’t let stress get you wound up.
Hi Victoria, quite by accident landed on your website. Of particular interest is your article on “Blue Light Therapy Powerfully Fights Acne and Improves Your Skin”. I myself promote home remedies, but have absolutely nothing against technology which probably produces results much faster. I think a lot of people only prefer home remedies due to the cost usually associated with technology. Just my opinion though…
acne during pregnancy
All too often people end up spending much more when trying to save money by trying thing after thing. Blue light therapy is an amazing technology that is a one time investment and really works and it’s a system that will last for years so in the end you actually end up saving money.
Hi Victoria,
Winters plus stress, has really created an upheaval on my skin. Today, in the morning when I wake up, and out of habit went to see myself in the mirror, to my horror, I witnessed an acne on my left cheek. Now, I will pamper myself with good thoughts and music, and lets see, if this could help. Thanks.
Oh, it’s always such a bummer to wake up to a new pimple! Hope you find positive thoughts and music a benefit 🙂
You won’t look good if you wear your stress on your face. Take at least the essential hours of sleep to avoid those puffy eyes and wrinkles. Happy Holidays with a flawless smile.
Stress is bad in so many ways isn’t it Fatima? It wreaks havoc on your health and skin and definitely doesn’t look very beautiful.
