The key to healthy skin lies beyond the products you use. It depends on what you eat, your physical activity, stress you’re under and the environment in which you work and live. All these factors decide how fast your skin ages.

Apart from these determinants, there are some skin care dos and don’ts you need to follow to maintain healthy skin.

Do’s

1.    Eat right

(Eat right)

For centuries women have been using edible ingredients on their faces in the form of facial treatments, such as egg masks and placing cucumber slices on their eyes. But, did you know that the food you eat can affect the health of your skin more than anything you apply on your face? Therefore try maintaining a varied, nutritious diet and amazing things will happen to your skin. Above all don’t forget to stay hydrated.

2.    Exfoliate regularly

Exfoliate your skin at least once or twice a week to remove dead cells from the top layer of your skin. Doing this will make room for new cell regeneration. You can try a mixture of powdered walnuts with yogurt to exfoliate your skin. The antioxidants present in walnuts help promote radiant skin.

3.    Follow a regimen regularly

(Removing make-up)

Caring for your skin should be a daily affair. If you follow a skin care routine occasionally, then don’t expect to see lasting results. So,

•    Wash your face twice a day with lukewarm water

•    Moisturize after you wash your face

•    Wear a sunscreen daily which has a minimum SPF of 30

•    Remove your make-up before you sleep

Don’ts

1.    Don’t buy a product based on its fragrance

Some of the topical creams smell amazing, and you will be tempted to purchase these. But, avoid buying them as they may have poorly compounded solutions. Plus, some may even cause dermatitis and red itchy rashes. So find products that have minimal or no fragrance at all.

2.    Stop smoking

Smoking ages your skin prematurely even sun damage stands second to this. Apart from the dangerous health hazards, it can cause some severe damage to your skin which includes psoriasis, loss of natural skin glow and reduced vitamin A levels.

3.    Don’t drink too much of coffee

Sure, 2 cups a day is fine. The problem starts when you have more than 2. The toxic effect that coffee has on your liver can lead to acne as it will be unable to purify your blood. Also, if you’re struggling with acne, coffee will make it worse.

Even when you’re dressed to perfection, you need something else to complete your look: clear skin. In this fast-paced world, it’s hard to find time for yourself, let alone your skin. But, getting healthy skin does not involve an overnight miracle. You needn’t spend hours, just a few extra minutes a day can go a long way.
