Foods that age your skin

Foods That Age You!

You spend a small fortune on skin care, treatments, and facials in hopes of improving your complexion and looking younger. You experiment with this and that and are willing to try just about anything to get back that youthful glow. All of these things you do for your skin are great, but you may be undermining your efforts with the foods you are putting in your body.

3 Foods That Age You!

1. Sugar

Unfortunately, sugar not only poses a risk to your health, but this seemingly innocent ingredient wreaks havoc on your skin. Sweets and other refined carbs increase the creation of Advanced Glycation End products (AGEs.) It’s the perfect acronym for these skin destroying elements because that’s exactly what they do; age the skin. AGEs cause your collagen and elastin to become brittle resulting in lines and wrinkles while interfering with the repair of these two vital proteins.

No need to despair. There are some great options that incorporate healthy alternatives so you can still eat your cake and look beautiful doing it! Check out amazing Sarah Wilson’s sugar free recipes and enjoy your desserts without worrying about AGEs.

2. Saturated Fats

I’m sure you are well aware of the fact that saturated fats are bad for your health and can lead to heart disease. Foods such as marbled meats and full fat dairy products produce inflammation throughout the body. Chronic inflammation has been shown to be a major aging accelerator. Needless to say, avoiding or limiting these foods will help reduce the amount of inflammation in your body helping your cells function optimally and help your skin look its best.

3. Alcohol

Alcohol robs your skin of vital hydration causing it to look dry, taut, and makes any existing lines and wrinkles become more pronounced. I’m sure you’ve noticed when you look in the mirror after an evening of drinking that you look a bit haggard. That’s the alcohol sucking all of the moisture from your skin. The other caveat is that free radicals are created as the liver metabolizes the alcohol. Free radicals love nothing more than to attack, damage, and destroy your precious cells.

Being aware of these 3 detrimental foods and limiting their consumption will greatly benefit your anti-aging efforts. If you’re thinking; “Whoa! Wait a minute…I don’t want to give these things up!” Just remember that even reducing them will benefit your health and your complexion. The more you decrease these foods and the more healthy options you replace them with the more beautiful you will look and feel.
