Use An SPF Moisturizer Daily To Keep Your Skin Young.

Protecting yourself from the sun with an SPF moisturizer is a vital part of your skin care routine.  It should be applied every day, year round.  You need to protect your skin not only from the aging affects of UV radiation but the serious health risks the sun poses. palmtrees

You can start off by avoiding the hottest part of the day, roughly 10:00 am to 3:00 pm.  This reduces your risk of burning which not only poses a health risk but also causes damage to skin cells in the form of premature aging.

Certain parts of the body are more vulnerable to burning so you need to be extra careful with these areas:

Top of the head (especially if you have thinning hair)

Rims of the ears

Nose

Face

Lips

Shoulders

Backs of knees

Shins

Tops of feet

To protect the top of your head simply wear a hat.  You should apply an SPF moisturizer to the rest of your exposed skin.  Sun Protection Factor (SPF) gives you an idea of how long you can stay in the sun without burning.

Basically, you take the amount of time you can stay in the sun unprotected without burning and multiply that number by the SPF to see how long it safe for you to be in the sun.

So, let’s say you can be in the sun for about 20 minutes before you start burning.  If you are using an SPF of 30 that means that you can stay in the sun about 30 times longer (20 min. X 30 SPF = 600 minutes.)

Of course other things come into play such as the strength of the sun, exposure to light reflecting stimuli such as water or snow, swimming, and sweating.  Just make sure you pay attention to your skin’s needs and reapply sunscreen when necessary.

For most of us we aren’t in the sun all day every day, but you still need an SPF moisturizer for day to day exposure.  You would be surprised at the amount of sun your skin actually gets on a daily basis.  Look for a light moisturizer with SPF of at least 15.

If you are spending any money on skin care products then protect that investment by wearing an SPF moisturizer everyday.  Remember, anytime your skin is exposed to the sun it is at risk of premature aging as well as more serious skin conditions such as cancer.  So protect yourself and your skin.
