Sugar causes the skin to age

Obtaining and maintaining youthful skin can be challenging to say the least. There are amazing skin care products such as Valia Skin Care and too such as the red light therapy and microcurrent devices, that can help you turn back the hands of time. But if you don’t take steps to take care of yourself from the inside you might just have an anti-aging battle on your hands.

I am so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, in fact it’s actually quite catastrophic news; too much sugar is detrimental to your health but did you know that sugar also wreaks havoc on your skin? When you consume too much sugar, a process called glycation occurs. Glycation is the process in which sugar in your bloodstream attaches to proteins causing new molecules to form called AGEs (Advanced Glycation End products).

Your skin’s building blocks, collagen and elastin, are proteins that are extremely vulnerable to glycation and the damage AGEs produce. When these two important proteins are damaged and become brittle the results are sagging skin, lines, wrinkles, and rough skin. Too many AGEs cause your skin to look older, dull, lifeless, and unhealthy.

Sugar ages the skin

High fructose corn syrup is believed to produce more AGEs than any other form of sugar. Although, it’s nearly impossible to cut sugar out of your diet completely, and I would never dream of asking you to do such a thing, but by simply avoiding high fructose corn syrup you will drastically reduced the amount AGEs that damage and age your skin.

Check labels as much as possible and cut out those processed foods that contain high fructose corn syrup. Reduce the amount of refined sugars as well and switch to natural sugar substitutes such as Stevia.

Vitamins B1 and B6 can also help you stave off AGEs. They have been proven to be affective AGE inhibitors. Supplementing your diet with 1mg. of these vitamins daily will help in your fight against aging. They help keep sugar from attaching to your proteins and causing AGEs that damage your skin.

There are many factors that cause your skin to age such as genetics, sun exposure, free radicals, and an unhealthy diet. By taking steps to stop glycation in its tracks you can help your skin look more youthful and vibrant. Not only will cutting out high fructose corn syrup and refined sugars help your skin glow, but your health will be greatly improved as well.
